Expression Sessions Speech and Language Therapy

FAQs

Where is your clinic?

For in-person support, I primarily conduct home visits or work in nurseries. I have recently relocated to Suffolk, I am based near Beccles - you can find the areas I cover on my contact page. The location of in-person workshops is specified when dates are released at various locations. I offer virtual therapy for easy access to support from any location.

Does my child need to have an assessment to be able to access therapy and workshops?

Direct therapy is tailored to your child’s individual needs so it is important that I have assessed them prior to starting therapy sessions. There are occasional exceptions e.g. if able to provide a recent comprehensive assessment from another therapist, please get in touch to discuss whether this is appropriate for your child. If you have identified a workshop you feel would be beneficial to your child’s needs they do not have to have had an individual assessment before attending, however please be aware I may not be able to offer personal advice regarding your child during the sessions. Assessment is not needed prior to Fussy Eating Workshops.

Does a parent need to be present during Speech and Language Therapy Sessions?

Yes, a care giver will need to be available during the appointment - both for safeguarding reasons, and to handover strategies to continue at home.

Do you see children with an EHCP?

An education health care plan will identify a child’s needs and allocate funding from the council to help the educational setting to meet those needs. I will see children with or without an EHCP but this is likely additional communication support not identified in the EHCP so will be at personal expense. Sometimes the council will approve use of EHCP funding for private therapy, please discuss the process of buying in Speech and Language Therapy with the educational setting or EHCP provider.

Do you see children who have an NHS Speech and Language Therapist?

I will see children who are also accessing support from another therapist, however I would typically like to get in touch with the other provider to make sure support is being provided efficiently between us and work on complimentary areas of need.

Do you work with Dysphagia?

I am a qualified paediatric dysphagia therapist but I do not currently work privately with children who have eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. If you are concerned about your child’s feeding I may be able to advise and sign-post you to further support. I also run workshops and 1:1 sessions for children with anxiety around food (see fussy eating).
